Trump – Tariffs – and Chaos … Is That the Plan?

By Jack Etkin, July 10, 2025

I think one of the most important things about the whole tariff story is that President Trump does NOT have authority over tariffs. In the United States, tariffs are controlled not by The President but by The Congress.

I'm not opposed to tariffs, I think tariffs can play a role in a nation's economy and tax structure, but what President Trump is doing with tariffs is crazy. And it's being allowed to happen by both the Congressional Leadership who actually do have the power to control tariffs, and the North American Corporate Media, who ignore the fact that President Trump does not really have the power to do what he is doing. And never ask why The Congress is allowing him to do it.

Global Consequences, Congressional Silence

What President Trump is doing with tariffs is not a minor issue. He is angering and upsetting many of America's allies and trading partners, and creating chaos around the world.

And he is only able to do this because The Congress and The Media are silent. And The Congress and The Media represent the government of the United States, and they represent Corporate America, and they also represent The Deep State.

So Mr. Trump's Tariff Policies are not the actions of an 'out of control president'. Instead, what he is doing represents Big Business and the full American Government, all of whom remain largely silent as far as we know.

Is Chaos the Goal?

And then it makes sense to ask ... Why are these crazy tariff policies being done?
And the answer seems to be: if we just look at what is actually happening, then the goals seem to be chaos, which is happening, and the removal of The United States as the world's leading power, which also seems to be happening.

The United States seems to be removing itself from its leadership role — which is something our own Prime Minister, Mr. Carney, has been saying.

What a Real Tariff Policy Could Look Like

As far as tariffs go, the Congress could have said to President Trump and the world:

We are going to impose tariffs to bring jobs back to America...

They could have initiated discussions with major trading partners, made a plan over a period of a few months, then informed those partners about the plan, had further discussions, and implemented tariffs slowly and sensibly over perhaps eighteen months.

This could have sensibly moved some jobs back to the U.S., just as those jobs were removed due to Free Trade over the past 25 or 30 years.

That would have been the policy of a world-leading nation.
But instead, we got chaos and lunacy.

A Deliberate Decline?

So we should at least consider that chaos and division and anger are the plan, and the goal is to remove The United States from its position as the world's #1 power, a role it has held for the past century.

And it seems clear that the mantle of power is being moved from the United States to China and Asia.
And this is being quite deliberately done.

The Extraction of America

  • First, they moved the jobs out of the U.S.

  • Then, they removed or stole the wealth of the American people

  • And of course, they stole their democracy as well

The Tariff Policies we’ve seen in recent months are not an accident or the actions of an out-of-control president — because The President Does Not Control Tariffs.
Tariffs are controlled by The Congress.

So the real question becomes:
Why has Congress abdicated its responsibility?
And the answer seems to be:
Because they have no problem with the chaos.

The United States: Finished as Global Leader?

The reality is that The United States IS pretty much finished as the world leader.

Its people have been divided, many impoverished, and money continues to flow upward to the top.

Job Loss, Endless Wars, and Debt

  • The U.S. lost millions of good-paying manufacturing jobs

  • Corporations offshored them for cheap labour, while charging first-world prices

  • The American people fought never-ending corporate wars:

    • Central and South America

    • Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia

    • Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen...

These wars created millions of refugees, many of whom destabilized Europe — a benefit for Big Business and The Rich.

Crushed by Debt

  • The U.S. federal government is $36 TRILLION in debt

  • State and municipal governments are also deeply in debt

  • Many Americans are crushed under personal debt

Their leaders have divided the nation, to the point where a new American Civil War is seriously discussed.

Meanwhile, money and power have been transferred to the Multi-Millionaire and Billionaire classes.

Inequality, Division, and What Comes Next

Income inequality is at record levels in both the U.S. and Canada.
The rich get richer, the poor get poorer — and that's just the way the rich like it.

And from the looks of things...
It is not going to be pretty.
