INCOME INEQUALITY AND POVERTY SEEM TO BE THE PLAN FOR CANADA - BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION
August 23, 2025: Income inequality in Canada has reached a record high and the gap between rich and poor is widening quickly, according to AI Overview. And this is not happening by accident. In my opinion, poverty and income inequality are 'the corporate plan' for Canada and Canadians. The .01% elite who run Canada are turning us into a third world country; with a small gang of 'the very rich' at the top, and a lot of poor people at the bottom. Canada used to be a middle-class country, but now the rich are taking more and more of the money and wealth, and leaving a lot of people with ... Not Enough.
This is the result of a long-term corporate plan that began over 30 years ago. The goal seems to be to move money from the middle and lower economic classes up to the richest 5% of Canadians. And this plan is working well and picking up speed.
And now millions of Canadians can barely afford to pay the rent or the mortgage. Many tens of thousands are close to bankruptcy. Many Canadians can barely afford to eat. Millions of Canadians are pretty deeply in debt. And so far there is no organized response to this growing disaster.
Misplaced trust: One reason for this lack of a response is that most Canadians think our media and politicians are doing their best for us - our leaders are 'trying to fix things up' but just can't quite figure out how to do it. And the media is telling us what's going on. But that is not, in my opinion, what is happening. I think the reality is that the media and politicians are part of the plan and they are betraying us and wrecking our country even as we continue to trust and believe them. We would not have this growing income inequality and poverty disaster if the politicians and governments and media actually worked for us. But instead they work for the people at the top who are the ones taking everyone else's money and wrecking people's lives by doing that.
The sad fact seems to be that Big Business and the .01% run Canada; they control our politicians and they control our governments and they own the big media. While the rest of us tend to think that we live in a great democracy and have a free press. And we believe those things because the media and politicians always tell us that we do have a great democracy and a free press that works for us. But we know the media and politicians are liars. And they should never be trusted. And if we do trust them, they will betray us and throw us under the bus for the benefit of our .01% corporate ruling class. And that's pretty much where Canada is at today.
So, what can we do about it? Well first we have to understand the real problem. I think the real problem is that our governments have left us behind. They don't care about us and they don't work for us. Instead they work for the banks and the very richest and the big corporations. And that's why the homeless are roaming our streets, and that's why more and more Canadians can barely afford to live.
So a solution is that we - we Canadians - have got to regain control of our political parties and politicians and governments. If we had done that twenty years ago, I think this whole Income Inequality Nightmare would never have happened. If we Canadians had a voice in our own governance, would we vote to enrich the banks and investors by letting them create a housing shortage to push up rents and mortgages so that millions of Canadians have to pay more to live while the money flows to those at the top who have done NOTHING to earn it?
Would we have voted for that? I don't think so. But in today's Canada, we the people are irrelevant. The very wealthy people who really run things, the .01%, have all the power, they control our governments, and they are deliberately doing the housing disaster and the cost-of-living disaster and the income inequality disaster to us. And then they laugh all the way to 'their' banks.
We think it's important if we vote Liberal or Conservative or NDP, or etc. But the reality is that Canada's .01% corporate elite have taken over all the big political parties and they control all our top politicians and they own all the big media. And they laugh as they throw people into poverty, or make us wait for twelve hours in an ER to see a doctor. And since the corporations control the big media, the reality of the situation never gets talked about. Is that how we want our country to be run? Well, it doesn't matter what we want, because we Canadians are irrelevant when it comes to how decisions are made in Canada, and the .01% have all the power. And that is the main thing that we have to fix up.
The only solution I can think of right now is ... first, we have to stop trusting and believing the corporate media and corrupt politicians because they are not worthy of our trust.
Building some democracy: And Second ... and I think this idea can work ... we can join our favorite political parties, whichever one that may be, and then work together to 'democratize' the political parties. And by democratize, I mean we have to put a lot of power into the hands of the party members, which is where the power should be, and take that power away from the party leadership gangs that have taken over our political parties. These people don't work for us and they have betrayed us for decades. If we can change that, if we can make our political parties more democratic, then and only then can we begin to turn this Income Inequality Mess around.
Doing that is going to require hard work and organization. It would be nice if some of the big enviro groups or unions or other large organizations would begin to do this work of building some real democracy in Canada. So far it's not happening, but I don't see another road forward. People have fought for democracy for a long time. In Canada we've fallen asleep and allowed our democracy to be completely stolen from us. Now, it's time to take it back. Because if we don't ... well just look around and we can all see the directions we are heading in.
So, joining our favorite political party and working together to build the democracy we need IS a possible road forward. And I think we should give it a try.
