AS FIRES BURN ACROSS CANADA, POLITICIANS AND MEDIA WANT MORE PIPELINES, OIL, AND LNG.
Why is the idea of 'Using Less' never mentioned ....
(Aug. 4, 2025) So far, this looks like maybe the second worst forest fire season on record in Canada. Huge amounts of CO2 from burning trees are making the climate change future even more dangerous. CO2 levels in the atmosphere are now at 422 ppm (parts per million), compared to 280 ppm; the 'pre-industrial level' and this is a fundamentally important change. Humanity is also pouring other greenhouse gases like methane and various man-made chemicals into the air. According to the best science (I think), these greenhouse gases hold warmth near the earth instead of letting it radiate back into space. So the earth is getting warmer and the warming is picking up speed. And this is, a lot of experts say, a road to total disaster.
And yet, all our top politicians - and big media - are pushing for MORE oil and gas and fracking and pipelines and mining and logging and chemicals. And all of this, they tell us, stemmed from 'The Trump Tariffs' which began to be imposed in January of this year. The Media - Government message was ... We Need More. Because times are tough and we are maybe losing our major trading partner. So their answer is ... more.
But also, we are in the middle of a massive pollution disaster. The disaster of The Fires is bad enough. But also, half of Canadians will now get cancer at some time in our lives. We all seem to have plastic in our brains now. More and more people have chronic diseases that really impact our lives on a daily basis. Diabetes is becoming more widespread. As is dementia. And all of these things are caused by pollution. And on top of all this we also have massive social problems in Canada like growing poverty, homelessness, hundreds of thousands of families barely able to pay for a place to live and still eat. While at the same time the 1% grow ever wealthier. Which is of course exactly the plan.
But there isn't a big push to fix up any of that... instead the push we are told is we have to have more mining and more oil and more gas and more logging and of course more pipelines. And more corporate profit. And more wealth at the top. But that's what we've been doing for the past fifty years, and look where it has gotten us. For example; we keep hearing that Alberta has 'had enough' of being restricted in their growth. But the fact is that Alberta has set records for oil production for each of the past four years (according to Statistics Canada but almost never mentioned by the media who don't want us to know certain truths. Each of the past four years has seen a record for oil production in Alberta, and in a climate change era, yet we are told that it's so terrible that Albertans want to separate from Canada. I wish Alberta would separate ... but from The Oil Industry; NOT from Canada. It's the oil industry that has royally screwed Albertans, but since big business controls our media and our politicians, certain truths cannot be talked about.
And it's oil production, and the burning of fossil fuels, that more than anything else is causing the fires that have made Toronto and Montreal and other Canadian and American cities the worst in the world for air quality. And yet the solution is ... MORE of the same?? It's crazy. But that's the story we are being told by our Prime Minister and all our Premiers and virtually all of the corporate media. We are on a road to destruction, and if we want to get off of that road it is up to us Canadians. But sadly, we are not yet up to the task of starting the fight needed to save ourselves from the corporations that have taken over our country. It is very late in the game, disaster stares us in the face ... can we get it together to save ourselves?
