YVES ENGLER KICKED OUT OF FEDERAL NDP LEADERSHIP RACE
This is an important issue about our democracy, which is why The Corporate Media are ignoring it...
Dec. 15, 2025: First the basic facts as I think they are. Most importantly, Mr. Engler is a serious candidate for this position. He is supported by a group called The Socialist Caucus of the NDP; this is a group of a few dozen people I think, many of whom have been active in the party for years and decades. When a group of committed long-time party members like this puts forward a candidate; then this person has a right to be in the race. And I'm sure there are many hundreds of NDP members who would support his right to be in the race and would vote for him as leader. I don't think Mr. Engler would win, and I don't know if I would vote for him if I were still a member of the NDP; but I believe 100% that he has every right to be in the leadership race.
At the same time, I think a political party has a right to 'protect itself' from a complete outsider or a 'clown with money' running for the leadership; but Yves Engler is nothing like that and he should have the right to run for the leadership of the federal New Democratic Party. And the fact that a small group of The Party Elite can remove him from the leadership race and deny the party members (and the Canadian public) the right to hear what he says is just one more example of how undemocratic a nation Canada has become over the past 50 years. And we are paying a very heavy price for losing our democracy. Just look around ... the homeless roam our streets, millions of Canadians can barely afford to eat, half of us will get cancer because the corporations are allowed to poison our food, air and water so that they can 'maximize their profits'. Those are just some of the prices we pay for losing our democracy and losing our voices, and letting the corporations and the .01% take over our country .... and the removal of someone like Yves Engler from a political race because the elites don't like what he says is just one more example of our lost democracy.
And all the big political parties do this; it's not just the NDP. The Liberals removed at least two people from the race in which Mark Carney was chosen to be party leader and Prime Minister less than a year ago.. The Green Party leadership gang removes people they don't like from leadership races routinely. I have no doubt the federal Conservatives do the same.
All of this is a democratic disaster, but that's how Canada operates these days. And most Canadians know little about this because of course the owners of the corporate media, who are part of the corporate elite who DO control all of our political parties, the media owners have no interest in telling Canadians how undemocratic things really are in Canada. The corporations and the .01% have all the power in Canada, and more democracy would mean they had to share that power with 'the people' ... and they have NO intention of doing that. So many truths are kept very well hidden.
But back to Mr. Engler. He has very left wing positions on what is happening in Gaza and Israel and the power structure doesn't like that. His 'platform' for the leadership race is entitled 'Capitalism can't be fixed; onward to a socialist future'. So you can imagine what Corporate Canada thinks about him. And the NDP leadership gang seems to think exactly the same thing; so they have kicked him out of the race.
Here are the first two paragraphs of Mr. Engler's Platform:
"Canada is at a crossroads. Workers, small business owners, and entire communities are being squeezed by rising costs, stagnant wages, and record debt. Housing and food prices have spiraled out of reach for millions, while public services — from healthcare to transit — are defunded and left to decline while the private sector waits to fill the gap at a price. Successive governments, be they Liberal or Conservative, seize sweeping powers to restrict Indigenous and labour rights, and crush democratic protest.
At the same time, the billionaire class has accumulated its wealth from centuries of stealing land and resources from the genocide of Indigenous peoples and continues to maintain the power to shape society for their benefit. Corporate boardrooms and foreign investors dictate national priorities, while ordinary Canadians are told to “tighten their belts.” The inequality and injustice are systemic — and growing."
So you can maybe see why Mr. Engler has been kicked out of the NDP Leadership Race and why the corporate media are basically ignoring the story.
Here are a few other things from Mr. Engler's platform.
Bring oil, gas, hydroelectric, and renewable utilities under a single publicly-owned authority.
Nationalize internet and mobile networks to guarantee universal, affordable access and end monopoly pricing. ○ Support independent, non-corporate media — such as journalist cooperatives — to give voice to working-class perspectives, investigate corruption, and hold power accountable.
Merge major banks into a publicly-owned financial system that channels credit toward green development, worker cooperatives, social housing, and other public priorities.
Reorient the Bank of Canada’s mandate to focus on full employment rather than inflation, which is used as a tool to punish labour.
Reorient the Ministry of Agriculture to oversee the transition to regenerative, climate-resilient farming. ○ Nationalize large agribusinesses and phase out factory farming.
Establish a publicly owned manufacturer for generic medicines and invest in open-access vaccine research.
And on and on it goes. And these are the kinds of ideas that the gang that runs the NDP don't want the party members to hear. And of course the media owners who include some of Canada's richest families also don't want these kinds of ideas out there. So Mr. Engler has been removed from the race. And in my opinion we ALL lose because of that.
