This factoid from a story I read today does kind of tell us where we are going. And so far there has been NO real response to the ongoing and now irreversible climate nightmare we are moving into. Believe it or not, world-wide fossil fuel use is still going up.
The official response in Canada today to the entire pollution and poisoning and environmental disaster that big business has caused, including the fact that almost HALF of us will now get cancer in our lives .... the official response to all of that is.... OKAY we have to build BIG Projects like Pipelines and More Mines and more logging and More Chemicals because THAT is in 'the national interest. That is the official story told to us by all the big corporate media, and all of our top politicians. So at this time of massive environmental disaster, and record corporate profits, there is no time to even THINK about the environment any more. We have to 'Move Ahead'. That is the corporate message, the media message, and the political message in Canada today. If we want to be happy and successful, we need MORE. And I'd say that a lot of people believe it since we are not allowed to hear any other message. But at the same time we've been doing what they have told us for the past fifty years, and things in Canada for millions of Canadians just keep getting worse.
Is it maybe time to start to Use Less?: The Premiers of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are telling people to 'stay out of the woods' .. (which is fine if that makes sense) ... but none of our politicians dare say ...Hey, maybe we should drive less and fly less and consume less. They won't say that because that is not allowed to be said in Canada right now. The idea of using less or consuming less or wasting less is not allowed because that will interfere with Corporate Profits, and that is not allowed. So the environmental insanity goes on as we cut our own throats, and murder the futures of the young people of today.
Plastic in our brains? It's not going to get better until we stop destroying our planet. But in Canada, corporate profit is always put ahead of the life of our planet. And corporate profit is of course put ahead of our lives as well. And the lives of everybody's babies and children. That's why we have plastic in our brains now. They don't care. There is money to be made, so the poisoning will continue. And if you don't like it, too bad for you. And even for mass murder, no corporate executive or shareholder or board member ever goes to prison. Instead they just seem to keep getting richer and more powerful.
While the rest of us have no say in anything. According to our friends at AI Overview, there are over 100,000 flights globally every day, carrying over 6 million people. Now I know we all love flying, but ... does this make sense in a burning and melting world? But there is no discussion of what we are doing to our planet and to our future. Is this 'really' what we want to do? If so, fine. But we, the world's people, have no voice in any of this. The decisions are made at a higher (corporate) level. And the environmental craziness just goes on and on. Here in Canada we have never really had an informed debate about where we want to go environmentally or socially or economically.
Where IS all that money from the crazy high rents and mortgages going? So for example, the people who run things have created an absolutely devastating housing disaster in Canada. And made fortunes from it. We Canadians were certainly never asked if we wanted to pay crazy high rents and back-breaking mortgages so that the banksters and investors and speculators and foreign owners could make fortunes. We were NEVER asked. But they don't have to ask us because Canada is not a democracy. We are a corporate run nation. And the corporations basically just 'did' the housing crisis to us as a way of taking a lot of money from a lot of people.
And that's how Canada is run. How many families are there in Canada where the grown children can't afford to move out of their parent's home because there is no place for them to live. How many people have been Reno-Victed? How many are paying too high rents and mortgages. Well that was DONE to us. And that fact is never allowed to be discussed. (And of course I could be completely wrong here .... maybe it was all just a big accident that happened to put a lot of money in the pockets of the already far too rich. But I don't think it was an accident.)
Mall Food Courts Are Environmental Disaster Areas, but Ho Hum say our politicians: Here in Victoria, BC, the large Hillside Mall that I walk past several times a week, owned by global giant Bentall GreenOak, has a very popular food courts that is completely Throw-Away and totally wasteful. All the plates and cups and cutlery are single use and throw it away. And nobody seems to care enough to fix even that simple thing up. No politician ever mentions it, even though they are ALL out there protecting the environment every day of their great career. But they never talk about the environmental disaster of the mall food courts that we all see and use all the time. Why are those food courts allowed to be so environmentally disastrous? Is that what 'we' want? Are we ever asked?
And all the supermarkets are exactly the same, with massive amounts of totally un-necessary packaging and waste that fill the shelves of all the supermarkets. The next time you're at the store, just take a look at the amount of packaging. And it can virtually ALL be gotten rid of. We can eliminate it. We don't need it. And we and our planet would be better off for it. But it never gets a mention. The packaging industry is poisonous and environmentally dangerous and a waste of money and resources that we can't afford to waste. But nobody in power cares enough to fix that up, and the media never mention it, so it only gets worse.
Toxic waste in multi-vitamins? Who cares: (3) I read another story today about, believe it or not, toxic waste products from corporate mass production being put into, of all things, vitamins and children's vitamins. I think that's true and the story comes from a pretty good source I think.
Forever Chemicals Added to Dental Floss? (4) Would they really do even 'that'? Sure, why not. I found out recently that 'forever-chemicals' - which for example give Teflon its non-stick properties -- forever chemicals are allowed to be put onto Dental Floss so the floss will go more smoothly between our teeth. This seems to be total corporate lunacy. WHY do our governments allow them to do this to us? And why don't our media ever talk about it?? Well the answer is, I think, because the corporations own the big media and they control all our top politicians and they control our governments. So they can do whatever they want. (Or is it all fine and above board and I am way off base to criticize it? )
More Democracy?? The only way forward I can see, to move out of this crazy corporate run world we live in, is 'More Democracy'. We, the people and citizens of Canada, who are currently almost totally irrelevant in deciding what goes on in Canada ... we need a bit more democracy which will give us a bit more of a voice in our own governance. And if we can get a bit more democracy, then maybe we can tell the people who run things to maybe put a bit less of their forever chemicals on our dental floss. Is that too much to ask? Well at this point in time, yes it is. And that's what we have to start to organize and fight for the solution of 'more democracy in Canada'.
