B.C. USES NEW LAW FOR MASSIVE COPPER MINE EXPANSION WITH NO TIME OR CONCERN FOR ENVIRONMENT OR PLANET...

(That's great, says Corporate Media)

July 25, 2025:
First of all, what happened?
The BC NDP Government just approved a major expansion of a Teck Resources copper mine at Logan Lake, southwest of Kamloops (the Highland Valley Copper Mine).

The David Eby NDP government used their new Bill 15 to allow the project to go forward seemingly with no concern for protection of the environment, protection of the planet, or protection of the health and the future for the people of BC.

Under the NDP's Bill 15, projects can be named by the Premier and Cabinet and be fast-tracked for approval if they are deemed "so important" for our future — according to the government. And clearly, what is important for our future is a major copper mine expansion... and more profit for the company. The NDP has many more fast approvals in mind as well — this is just the first, or one of the first.

But let’s be honest: Modern mining is an extremely poisonous industry.

Mining is of fundamental importance to the modern Corporate Industrial State.
Copper is widely used and very necessary for our consumer society, and copper is also “crucial” for Electric Vehicles... which are being presented as part of “the clean and green future.”

So obviously, we need more copper, says Mr. Eby and the NDP.

But the sad truth is: cars cannot really be a part of the future.
I'm sure very few people want to hear this, but if we want to protect our planet and our own health, then we have to move away from cars.

Mining is poisonous in many ways. It uses and contaminates large amounts of water. A lot of chemicals and toxins are used in mining. Poisons are created that literally have to be contained forever.

And of course, the mining companies do not intend to pay for that perpetual containment of their mining waste. Their plan is that the rest of us will pay to deal with the mess they leave behind.

And we will pay.
Because that’s what happens when corporations control our governments, which is exactly the situation we have in Canada.

MINES AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Mining is, unfortunately, extremely toxic.
In general, with copper mines, to get one pound of copper, one has to dig up and grind about 100 to 160 pounds of rock (according to AI overview).
And then all this rock has to be stored, basically forever, in water, because it is toxic and poisonous.

The new Teck mine expansion in BC plans to extract about 2.4 million tonnes of copper over an 18–20 year lifespan.
This will generate, according to the BC government, about 900 million tonnes of ore — meaning the rock dug up and crushed to get the copper.
This 900 million tonnes of ore has to be stored... indefinitely.

According to our friends at ChatGPT:

"Tailings ponds from mining operations must be maintained indefinitely, or at least for as long as they pose an environmental or safety risk — which often means hundreds to thousands of years."

So future generations will have to take care of these huge and poisonous lakes being created by all kinds of mines — so that we today can have all the wonderful things we like to have.

And mining has many more problems beyond tailings lakes, including the huge amounts of energy needed to run the mining operations themselves.
Imagine the energy needed to grind up and smelt 900 million tonnes of rock — or about 2 trillion pounds.

The Bigger Issue: No One Asks Us.

The fact that we are never asked if this is really what we want to be doing — that is remarkable.

And now, here in BC (with Bill 15), in Ontario (with Bill 5), and across Canada (with Mark Carney’s Bill C-5), the environment and the future do not even have to be considered.

How nice is that for the mining industry, Big Oil, Frackers, investors, and banksters?

Now maybe we Canadians are willing to destroy the future so we can have all the wonderful things we have today... but maybe we’d at least like to slow down a bit?
Maybe have a bit less, but protect the planet a bit more for the generations to come?

But we, the people of Canada, are not even considered when these decisions are made.
We are irrelevant.

Big Business and the owners make the decisions.
And they are destroying everything in their insane quest for more profit.

Can We Stop Them?

And the real question is:
Can we stop them?
And how do we stop them?

To me, if we want to stop them, the fight has to be for more democracy.

We Canadians — we the people — have to regain control of our country, and we have to start to have a voice in our own governance.

And there are ways to make this happen.

But step one:
If we want more democracy and a voice in our futures, we have to realize that democracy is important — and that our democracy is just about gone.

Step two:
Make a decision to start doing the work necessary to get it back.

And I honestly believe:
If we start to improve our democracy even a little bit, we will immediately start to see the benefits in our daily lives.

This Mine Expansion is Just One Example.

This mining craziness is just one example of the broader problem — and the urgent need for real solutions.

But if the people of BC know the environmental and health consequences of this mine, and still want it — then I will go along with it. Because I do believe in the ideals of democracy.

But when a corrupt government and corporate media conspire to approve this mine without discussion, debate, or public consent — then we do not live in a democracy.

And if we want to live in one, then we’re going to have to do the work to get it back.
Because the people who run things have no intention of giving up any of their wealth or power to us.

And they do see us as peasants, in my opinion.
And they are starting to treat us more and more like livestock.

(In case you haven’t noticed.)
