NOVA SCOTIA LIFTS BAN ON FRACKING, URANIUM MINING

Following Carney's Lead on Big Nation-Building Projects

A couple of months ago, Nova Scotia lifted a long-standing ban on fracking and uranium mining.  Conservative Premier Tim Houston reportedly did this with no public consultation, because with the kind of undemocratic governments we have in Canada, there is no need to involve the citizens in this kind of decision.  The public remains largely irrelevant, as they say, from Coast to Coast to Coast.

Right across Canada, all our governments seem to think, since Day One of The Trump Tariffs, that the way to a better future is to destroy the environment and the planet faster than ever in order to have more mines, more pipelines, more oil and gas and plastic and LNG so that people can continue to live the most wasteful lifestyles in the history of humanity.  And really what it is all about is corporate profit; that is the real impetus behind everything.    Just look around you the next time you are in the supermarket or the mall food court at the MASSIVE amounts of waste we are creating. And almost without a second thought.  Fly to Vegas for the weekend?  Sure.  And if you happen to have a private jet, all the better.

But back to Nova Scotia:  According to the CBC ... 'Premier Tim Houston laid the groundwork for the legislation earlier this year when he started touting the need for the province to capitalize on the potential of its natural resources and positioned his government as standing up to an unnamed group of special interests he said have held back progress.'

Here in BC we have the same kind of thing from our NDP government's Bill 15 which allows more projects to move ahead with little or no environmental or other rules, because we don't have time for that kind of stuff anymore.  And in Ontario they have Bill 5 which seeming allows all laws including minimum wage and safety rules to be 'disappeared' when a corporation wants it to be so.  And Canada wide we have Mr. Carney's Bill C-5, which does similar things federally.

We have been led into societal and environmental disasters by our undemocratic politicians and governments, with the housing disaster, the cost of living crisis, and the health care mess as well as mass cancer and plastic in our brains being some of the more obvious examples of the prices we are paying for having lost our say in how our governments operate.

And now our governments are clearly planning to give us even more of the same, with Prime Minister Carney leading the way as he cuts government program spending to pay for giving more money to the military industrial complex.  And no doubt we'll have tax cuts for the richest coming up soon as well.  For example Mr. Carney has already gotten rid of plans the previous Liberal government had to raise the tax on capital gains.  Capital Gains give huge tax breaks, mostly to the richest  - who pay less tax on money they make from capital gains than the tax working people pay for the money they have to actually 'work' to make...

And even though Nova Scotia lifted its ban on fracking and uranium mining a few months ago, the first I heard of it was today, because it's the kind of thing the corporate owned media don't really want us knowing about.   We really do need in Canada the democracy and the free press that we think we already have.
