LET'S SPEND BILLIONS MORE ON MILITARY ... AND NOT ASK WHY
(June 12, 2025) It's definitely interesting times. Prime Minister Mark Carney has decided to spend billions more on the military, and he intends to spend that money as fast as possible. And there is now talk of going from 2% of GDP to 3 or 4% on the military. Each 1% jump would equal about $30 Billion.
If we had started to spend that kind of money on housing every year; 10 or 15 years ago, we could have Completely Avoided the entire housing disaster that Canadians have been put through. And we could have great livable communities instead of just the condo towers and etc. put up to maximize corporate profits.
But the Trudeau Government and the Stephen Harper Government before that wanted to push home prices and rents up, so they didn't build the houses Canada needs. Instead they turned the housing industry over to the private sector, and the private sector knew that a shortage of homes would push rents and prices up. And a housing shortage is what they wanted because that's how they could make the most money. And our governments allowed them to do that to us.
But back to Mr. Carney's Military Spending Plans: The corporate media seems to be 100% on board. And Mr. Carney seems to have a great speech-writer; his one-liners about how wonderful it is to increase military spending are great. And I'm not against military spending, although I would like to see it spent a little differently, and maybe aimed at a different set of enemies. And we should remember how deadly the modern military is to the environment because modern weapons are so very poisonous.
And why do we need to spend more on the military? Because, of course, of the growing 'threats' from Russia and China. And how do we know that Russia and China are threatening our nation and our democracy and our freedoms? We know because we've been told this over and over, in a growing crescendo, by the media and our politicians, for the past ten years or more.
But is it true? That question never gets asked. I fear Corporate Interference in our democracy much more than I fear interference from Russia and China. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I think. When I look around I see virtually TOTAL corporate control of Canada. First of all, Corporate Canada basically owns all the big media in Canada. Which means they have almost total control over the stories their media tell us. And secondly, one can make a good case that Corporate Canada controls all our major political parties, plus the federal government and all the provincial governments. That's what I think when I look at how our governments operate. They certainly don't work for 'the people'. But they certainly do seem to work for 'the corporations'. That's why the corporations seem to have all the money these days while we Canadians keep getting poorer and poorer. The corporations also seem to have the power to poison us as much as they want if that will help to increase their profit margins. How crazy is that?
We are told - almost from birth - that we can trust the media. Look at CTV. Or the Globe and Mail. Has the question ever been raised by a politician or somewhere in the media that ... maybe the people who work for CTV or the Globe and Mail or the CBC or the radio stations we listen to, or MSN and Yahoo News don't work for us. But it's 100% true that they don't work for us. The Globe and Mail is owned by Canada's richest family. And CTV is owned by a company whose chairman is the former head of Canada's biggest bank; RBC. So the people who work for CTV, who always pretend to work for us, they really work for the banksters.
The biggest lie all the corporate journalists tell us is that ... Of Course We Work For You. But really they work for Corporate Canada; that's who pays them their wages and their salaries. And any corporate journalist who does not do what the corporate bosses tell them to do is NOT going to be a corporate journalist for very long. And that's true of the CBC as well. And I don't really fault the journalists; that's just the way it is and they want to keep their jobs and they want to be able to continue to feed their families. But to do that, they have to lie to us every day of the year, and that's what they do. And isn't it about time that we stopped believing them?? This is our fault as well as theirs.
It's a lie that we have 'a wonderful free press' in Canada that works for us and tells us the truth. And sadly it's also a lie that we have a wonderful democracy. And so we have Mr. Carney now telling us (not asking us) that we will become an energy super-power; that there is no more time really for questioning 'important nation-building projects like more fracking and more pipelines and more mining'. The Media and all the provincial premiers seem to be 100% behind him. Meanwhile, the fires are burning across the northern prairies. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and etc. have been covered in smoke. And it goes on and on and on because we can never have less but must always have more - even as we destroy our planet. Half of us will now get cancer. Is MORE of this what we want?? Maybe it is. But for sure we are never asked if this is what we want. Because what we want does not matter for one second to The Corporations That Really Run Canada.
For example were we ever asked if we wanted to create a shortage of housing in Canada in order to push up rents and push up prices in order to make fortunes for the banks and investors and speculators and etc. That is what they did to us, but they certainly never asked us about it.
That's what Canada is really all about, and Mr. Carney is just the next step in all of that. It's pretty clear that the United States has been hollowed out and it will no longer be The Nation That Runs The World For Big Business. It's massively in debt. The people are divided. You can see how the media and their top politicians have consistently worked to divide Americans over every possible issue ... except of course the issue of the total control of their nation by the lunatic .01%. THAT never gets talked about. And it seems they - the power structure - have already moved to Asia and China.
In Canada, the people we elect CANNOT work for us; if they do their careers will be ended. These days you can't even become a candidate for a major political party unless The Party Leadership okays you. Not the party members in the area you live in; the party members are powerless and irrelevant. The undemocratic party leadership runs the party, and if you don't like that, too bad. Because there is nothing we can do about it. And yet we still think we live in a great democracy; which is certainly what I thought for most of my life.
So back to why we have to spend more on the military. First the media and our politicians and our governments, and CSIS and the RCMP tell us for years that Russia is a threat and China is an even bigger threat.. And we tend to believe them since that's all we are allowed to hear in the big media.. And maybe China and Russia ARE a big threaat; but as far as I know we still haven't seen any proof, have we?
But personally I think that Corporate Canada is a much bigger threat to my life and my safety and our democracy and freedom than Russia or China are.
Remember when the biggest threat was Saddam Hussein? With the weapons of mass destruction that nobody could ever find. And billions were spent on that war ... and millions of innocent people all over the Middle East were murdered by the lunatics who run the United States as they destroyed Iraq, and Afghanistan (again) and then Libya and Syria and then Yemen and then .. Ukraine. The Ukraine war NEVER had to start. All those deaths and all the destruction were - in my opinion - and in the opinion of thousands of experts world-wide ... that disaster was pushed from Day One by the people who run the USA. But you don't see that story in the corporate media; they are too busy telling us that Russia is 100% to blame and Russia and China are destroying our democracy. And because of that we 'Have To Spend More On Defense'. And now we have Mr. Carney who seems very happy to do that for us. And to us.
It just keeps getting crazier. But I do think a first step for us Canadians should be to stop believing what the media and politicians and our governments are telling us; and instead we should start to work to make our political parties and our governments more democratic. I think those kinds of things would be big steps in good directions if we want to have a future.
