A FIRST STEP TO BUILDING A BETTER DEMOCRACY IN CANADA

We have to realize that democracy is important.  That is the first step.  We have to realize that democracy is important.  But ... since Big Business owns all the big media in Canada, democracy never gets talked about in their media.  Lots of crime in the media.  They love crime and want to tell us all about it.  But they never talk about democracy; except to tell us Canada IS a great democracy, and it's so obvious that it can never be questioned.

But if you start to look for this democracy, it's not very easy to find.  Democracy kind of means "governments of, by, and for the people".  And that is gone.  We the people are largely powerless, at the city level, the provincial level, and the federal level.  Someone else is running the show, and in my opinion it is Big Business that now runs Canada.  And they are stealing everyone's money, poisoning us, and destroying the future.  The Housing Mess and the Health Care Mess are just two examples of how they work.

But if we can get more democracy, so WE have more of a voice in what's going on, then it won't be so easy for them to steal from us and wreck everything.

So democracy is important I think.  And we have largely lost it.  And we have to make a decision to start to do the work that is necessary to get our democracy back.

Do we think that democracy is an important issue in Canada?  Well, democracy is probably never on the 'list' of what Canadians think are our big concerns.  A recent poll of Canadians said our main concerns are The Cost of Living; HealthCare; Housing; and The Economy.  Those are the big ones; things like immigration policy, the environment, and public safety are much further down.

But I would say that the things we see as our 'problems' are not really the problems; they are really The Symptoms.  The problem is that we have lost our democracy and our voices.  And everything else comes from that underlying problem.

The cost of living is a good example.  I think the cost of living problem, where millions of Canadians are 'just barely getting by' because they have to pay so much for a place to live, and now for food as well - and high taxes while big business and the rich get all the tax breaks.

I think the cost of living would be much less of a problem - much less - if we had more democracy.  Because if we had more say in what our governments are doing to us; then why would we create a situation where people have to work harder to pay for food and a place to live, so that everybody's money can go to The Banks, The Investors, The Big Food Corporations, The Speculators, the big Land-Owners, and etc.      Believe me, decisions were made by our governments that allowed the housing 'scam' to be done to us; and those decisions could only be made because the vast majority of us have no idea of what is really going on because they never tell us.  The Corporations and the 01% control our governments and they own the media, and THAT is our real problem, in my opinion.

And only when we realize that, and see the importance of it, only then can we start to fight to fix things up.  (Or I could be completely wrong and maybe Canada is the great democracy they tell me we are.  But I no longer think so; I used to believe it but I don't believe it anymore.)

Here is one thing that can be done if people are interested. It's simple; just join, or rejoin, your favorite political party.  And work with others to make the party more democratic; so that the power is largely in the hands of The Party Membership  ...  and the power is NOT in the hands of the party leadership.

It is very dangerous to give the power of government to people who don't work for us.  The only safe place for that power is in the hands of the people of Canada, so we, all of us together, have GOT TO retain control over the politicians and the political parties.  And just look around and you can see the price we are paying for having lost control of our governments.  But if you live on the estates where the .01% live, with the yachts and private jets and country clubs and private schools and nannies, then things are pretty damn good.  And they have it so good because they control our governments and they make the rules and they own the media while the rest of us are irrelevant and increasingly treated like 'livestock', which is just about all we are to them.

The Corporations have taken over our political parties and they have largely excluded the party members from having any power.  And that is a disaster.  So realizing the mess we are in, and deciding to do something about it, is the most important step.

One thing we can all do.  Join our favorite political party and start working with others to make our political parties more democratic.
